American Epic Series
American Epic Series
“American Epic” series of linocut prints, 24 x 36 inch prints, 2008- present
Currently, I’m creating a series of fifty linocut prints titled The American Epic, which tells the story of America. Prints from this series have been exhibited nationally in Nashville, New Orleans, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.
In 2008, I traveled to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire to see José Clemente Orozco’s mural The Epic of American Civilization. Witnessing the mural in person was transformative, I spent an afternoon admiring its power and imagery. This experience inspired me to interpret the American story in my work. It also led me to Mexico, where I studied Mexican printmaking and the murals of Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Their intensity, sincerity, and the rich history of socially and politically driven art influenced my approach to The American Epic.
I’ve been working on the series for over a decade and have completed over 30 prints. The narrative evolves as I continue to explore current events, history, art, and cultural influences. While the series is ongoing, I often exhibit the series-in-progress and have also expanded into other mediums and collaborations as extensions of the project.
